I can't help but go googly eyed when I see one. Considering the constant problems associated with the 8's; NP or CP?

840s are by far the better option, although you're still going to have to replace the engine at 150k or so if you don't preventatively replace the timing chain guides. That said, that car looks like an incredibly well-kept example, although going by the price, you get what you pay for.

That's a great idea! I knew all those spare Fiorano parts in my garage would come in useful

Well, 840s will definitely be cheaper than 850s, that's for sure...

It's only 5 miles away so I might take a goosey gander at it. I couldn't ever be serious about buying one though, I'm not great with auto Bavaria

BUT SERIOUSLY. ITS NOT LIKE IT WOULD BE ANY LESS RELIABLE. BUT IT WILL HAVE MORE POWWWWEEEEERRRRRRR

No! You be quiet!

Thought the 8's (and especially the 4.0's) are notoriously unreliable. Tell me if I'm wrong

A Lamborghini Miura is notoriously unreliable, and it likes to get airborne above 80, yet no one has ever called that one a POS.
![]() 10/18/2014 at 12:23 |

Well yeh, the Miura is an icon. The 840 isn't, and is built by a company that should know better. I mean it's only been around since '91, but their power plants just don't seem to make it. I still LIKE the car.

My friend has this 840ci, and all they've had to do was change a radiator..
But as I like to say, results may vary.

That's a lovely colour. I think I'm gonna take a look at it, but do some reading first

Thanks. Here's a better pic of dat green. That's also his WRX in the back. :)

Well meh, the 840 was stuffed to the brim with for the time advanced electronics made out of wood, the Miura wasn't and was also built by a company that should have known better. I mean their goal was to surpass the Ferraris of the time, instead they made a 350hp car with all the aerodynamic capabilities of a 1920s Ford.

Right ok, I still think it's an unfair comparison. Would you realistically own an 8?

Defo still a looker, although that pic is making me cringe. Is it a trick of the light, or is the chin spoiler SUPER close to the top of a curb?

No, but for different reasons.

I don't think they're POSs. They're electrically complex, and many of the aesthetic pieces are unique to the E31. The 840i's are a little doggy, kind of like a fancy 1994 Thunderbird. Still, with some love they're not POSs at all.

I'll have one as a toy someday...
